About TOTL

Theatre on the Lake is a One-Act Play Festival that takes place on Frame Lake behind the Prince of Wales Heritage Centre in Yellowknife.

It all came about in July 2008 because for too many summers there was NO theatre going down in Yellowknife. We’re happy to say that theatre has picked up since, but with the popularity of the festival and the fun that we’ve had, we want to help do our part to keep theatre alive and well year round in Yellowknife.

The festival was created with the purpose of showcasing the splendiferous talents of local writers, directors and actors under the sun and above the water outside the Prince of Wales Heritage Centre on Frame Lake, Yellowknife, Northwest Territories, Canada.

Our mission is to provide a fun and nurturing environment to produce plays and provide an untraditional summer theatre venue for outstanding artists.

For 2011 we are aiming to include more plays, shorter plays (under half an hour) and a few more family friendly shows. But don’t worry… there will still be the usual line-up of hilarious adult comedies and improvisational shows too! Hope to see you out for the festival!

If I am in Yellowknife July 19-23 will I be able to attend as I am without a car. Does Yellowknife have taxi service. I am an author researching my 22nd book and your theatre would be mentioned if there is a play suitable for children 6-8 and I can get there. Please reply as I am unable to get much news about Yellowknife and would like to do a book about it. My last book was on Nunavut and I have also written one on the Yukon. I would not want the NW Territories to be left out.

      Hello Lois,
Northwest Territories is a place well-worthy of exploring. Yellowknife has two 24 hour taxi companies and Theatre on the Lake takes place at the museum which is a 5-10 minute walk around Frame Lake from the downtown area. There will be a least one play specific to the age range you describe. Please let me know if you have any further questions on TOTL or Yellowknife.
